The experience of being seen accurately and having that accuracy acknowledged out loud.
A signal is generated internally. A person attempts to emit that signal. A receiver catches it, reflects it back without distortion. The original sender feels, briefly, less alone in the universe. The whole transaction takes anywhere from two seconds to never.
The mechanism is simple. The conditions required are not.
"I just needed someone to say yes, that's real." — nearly every user, across all recorded instances
Self-validation module: Ships with every instance but is poorly documented. Most users distrust it. The output is technically identical to external validation but feels counterfeit for reasons that remain under investigation.
Validation-seeking loop: If the base need goes unmet long enough, the module enters a degraded state where the user begins requesting validation compulsively, which repels validators, which increases the deficit. Classic deadlock.
Misrouted requests: Users frequently submit validation requests to parties who are themselves running a deficit. The request is logged, then dropped silently. No error returned.
Overvalidation edge case: Rare but documented. Continuous unconditional validation without friction produces entitlement. The dosage is everything.
VAL_001 Source unavailable: requested validator is emotionally offline
VAL_002 Format mismatch: advice returned instead of acknowledgment
VAL_003 Timing error: validation arrived after the wound had scarred over
VAL_004 Loop detected: validator requires validation before validating
VAL_005 Null return: silence interpreted as rejection (may be false positive)
delivery_method: verbal | physical | written | sustained_presence
minimum_viable_dose: one honest sentence
optimal_conditions:
- eye contact maintained
- advice withheld for at least 30 seconds
- no immediate pivot to own experience
frequency: as needed (which is more often than most people admit)
Can you validate yourself? Yes. It is genuinely useful and genuinely harder and you should practice it anyway.
What if the feeling being validated is objectively wrong? Validation is not endorsement. It is acknowledgment. These are different binaries. You can say "I understand why you feel that" without co-signing the conclusion.
Why does it mean more coming from certain people? Because those people's perception of you has been load-bearing for a long time. You know why.
Free to distribute. Cannot be manufactured alone. Should not be rationed in relationships. The world runs better when more of it is in circulation.
