The distance between what was intended and what persists.
Something is imagined. Someone builds it. The world applies pressure: time, use, the wrong weather, the right accident. Where the imagined and the built diverge, a flaw opens. Not a crack exactly. More like a seam that remembers the original argument.
The flaw does not arrive. It was always there, folded inside the first decision, waiting for load.

Some flaws are the only honest part of the object. The Parthenon has no perfect right angle. The optical correction built into its columns bends toward human vision, not toward geometry. Call that flaw or call it attention. The word loses traction.
The staple gun misaligned by one degree. The cathedral settled soft to the left. The typeface with the letter that never quite sits. These are records. The made thing kept the maker's tremor.
