What it actually is

A structure placed over events after the fact, which then rewrites its own installation date to claim it was there first.

How it works

Events occur. Events do not care about order, meaning, or you.
A narrator (could be a culture, a brain, a campfire circle) selects some events and discards others.
Selected events are assigned causality: A caused B caused C. This is mostly fiction. It is also load-bearing.
A shape emerges. Beginning. Middle. End. The end arrives and immediately becomes a beginning so the whole thing can

Features

Retroactive coherence: Makes the past feel inevitable. It was not.
Protagonist injection: Installs a "you" at the center of events that had no center. Default setting: on. Cannot be disabled without years of meditation or a severe head injury.
Villain synthesis: When events feel bad, generates a responsible party. Accuracy: variable.
Survival compression: Converts traumatic noise into a story you can carry. Side effects include carry forever.
Transmission protocol: One narrative, if well-formed, can overwrite another person's self-narrative entirely. This is called myth. Also sometimes called propaganda. The code is identical.

Known bugs

Hindsight bias (critical): Narrative convinces the user they knew the ending was coming. They did not.
Gap filling (high severity): Where data is missing, narrative auto-generates content using vibes and prior priors. Output is indistinguishable from memory.
Closure hallucination: Users report feeling the story "ended." No story ends. This is a display issue.
The unreliable narrator is always you.

`NAR-002`	TooManyProtagonists	Conflict. Two users each believe they are the main character of the same story. Both are correct. Neither will accept this.
`NAR-003`	PlotHoleCritical	A key event does not fit the established narrative. User is ignoring it. System is ignoring user ignoring it.
`NAR-404`	AudienceNotFound	Story told to no one. Still running. Still running.
`NAR-666`	RecursiveOrigin	Narrative is explaining where narrative came from. Do not follow this thread.

Edge cases

A narrative with no antagonist tends to collapse into memoir and then into weather.
Children under four run on pre-narrative firmware. Watch them. They are briefly seeing what the data actually looks like.
Some stories are told so long they become history. History is a narrative that won.
