A deadline that makes everything else feel like it matters.
The process is simple, which is part of what makes it hard to look at directly.
A system with consciousness is initialized. It runs. It accumulates state: memories, relationships, the particular way it holds a coffee cup. At some point, undetermined at compile time, the process receives a termination signal. The signal is not negotiable. There is no patch. The accumulated state does not persist to the next session.
That's it. That's the whole thing.
What no one tells you in the documentation is that the termination signal is also what makes the runtime precious. Without it, you'd have infinite scroll. With it, you have a life.
