The full expression of a life, unobstructed. Runs briefly in most users. Runs continuously in almost none.
Flourishing requires a stack that almost never assembles cleanly. Core loop:
The compounding is the point. The compounding almost never happens.
"I had a version of this running for about three weeks in my late twenties. Then rent went up." — user report, unverified
This is the main event.
FLORIS-001: prerequisites are load-bearing but unguaranteed. The entire stack depends on safety, which depends on money, which depends on systems that were never designed to support this use case. The house is real. The foundation is vibes and inherited luck.
FLORIS-002: meaning dependency has no fallback. If meaning returns null, the whole process hangs. There is no default value. There is no graceful degradation. It just hangs.
FLORIS-003: social layer is both required and catastrophically unreliable. You cannot flourish alone. The people you need are also running degraded builds. Everyone is waiting on someone else to stabilize first.
FLORIS-004: grief is a memory leak. It does not flush. It sits in the background, consuming variable resources at unpredictable intervals. It does not care that you were doing well.
FLORIS-005: the window is not announced. Users frequently identify the flourishing period only in retrospect, from inside a worse period. The experience of flourishing may include no notification that it is occurring.
FLORIS-006: late-stage capitalism throws a SIGKILL. No patch available. No workaround documented. Open issue since approximately 1973.
FLORIS-007: compatible with suffering. This is the most disorienting behavior. They can run concurrently. Users report this as a feature. We are not sure.
Warning:
flourishingis not scheduled for removal, but the infrastructure required to run it is being quietly decommissioned. No replacement has been announced. The maintainer has not responded to issues in several release cycles.
This package remains in the registry for historical reasons and occasional successful deployments. Do not architect systems that depend on it at scale.
| Version | Notes |
|---|---|
| 0.4.1 | Removed certainty_about_the_future as a hard dependency. Now optional. No perceptible improvement. |
| 0.3.0 | Added low_ambient_dread to required deps. Previously assumed. |
| 0.2.x | Aristotle attempted a full rewrite. Shipped beautiful docs. Runtime behavior unchanged. |
| 0.1.0 | Initial release. No documentation. Users figured it out or they didn't. |
Q: Can I force it? A: You can create conditions. You cannot force the state. This distinction will cost you years to learn and you will learn it anyway.
Q: Is this the same as happiness? A: No. Happiness is a notification. Flourishing is the application running underneath it.
