What it actually is

The condition of a life going well in a way that is hard to explain to someone asking if you are happy.

How it works

Flourishing does not arrive. It accumulates, then is noticed retroactively. The mechanism is roughly:

Engage seriously with something that resists you
Maintain connections to people who require your actual presence
Contribute to something whose timescale exceeds your own
Repeat across decades
One afternoon, notice that things are good in a way that is structural rather than circumstantial

The process has no loading screen. Users frequently mistake its absence for depression when the real issue is insufficient exposure to steps 1 through 4.

Features

Depth over amplitude: Does not spike like pleasure. Sustains like a well-tuned system under moderate load.
Adversity-compatible: Functions during grief, failure, and confusion. Possibly requires them.

False negative on assessment: Users experiencing flourishing often report uncertainty about whether they are flourishing. Users not experiencing it often report confidence.
Comparison override: Exposure to social media can suppress the signal entirely, even when the underlying state is valid.
Misrouted credit: Users attribute flourishing to recent good events rather than to the years of configuration that preceded them.
Deferred start: Many users wait for circumstances to improve before beginning. The build does not start until you start it.

FAQ

Is this the same as happiness? No. Happiness is a weather condition. Flourishing is a climate.

Can I flourish while suffering? Yes. This is one of the more counterintuitive features and the one most worth trusting.

What is the minimum viable configuration? One genuine relationship. One meaningful pursuit. Some skin in the game on something real. That is enough to begin.

Is it ever too late? The changelog shows active commits at every age. No deprecation notice has been issued.
