Detachment

What it actually is

Caring, but having quietly moved the caring to a very small room in the basement.

How it works

The system monitors incoming grief, desire, and social obligation. When the load exceeds a configurable threshold, detachment initiates a managed withdrawal. Outputs are routed through a buffer that dampens intensity before surfacing to the user's behavior layer.

This is not the same as numbness, which is a full read error. Detachment still receives the signal. It simply does not forward it immediately. Or sometimes at all.

The process runs quietly in the background, which is most of the problem.

Features

Reduced reactivity. Provocations arrive, are logged, and are left unread.
Sustained function under duress. The system keeps operating while the emotional queue fills.
Apparent calm. Useful in emergencies, negotiations, and arguments with people who have already decided.
Observer mode. Events are witnessed with something resembling curiosity rather than stakes.

Note: Setting spiritual_framing: enabled does not change the underlying state. It changes the label on the jar.

Edge cases

When practiced deliberately, via meditation or philosophy, detachment can approach actual equanimity. The internal architecture looks similar. The difference is whether you chose the room or were slowly moved into it.
Children trigger a bypass exception. Most users report unexpected re-engagement.
Applied to work, detachment is often called professionalism and rewarded.
Applied to love, it is eventually noticed, and then it is called something worse.

FAQ

Is this the same as not caring? No. Not caring is an empty return. Detachment is a full return that goes nowhere.

Can I reverse it? Yes. The standard method involves vulnerability, which most detachment users have already flagged as a known security risk.

Is detachment healthy? Contextually. As a storm protocol: reasonable. As a lifestyle: the system will compile and run indefinitely, producing nothing in particular.

Users report this state feels peaceful. Correct. So does floating in cold water. That is not the same as being warm.
