What it actually is

A 120 square foot proof-of-concept for a self that did not ship.

How it works

The room initializes at approximately age 12 when you staple something to the wall your parents hate. It runs a continuous background process: identity compilation, mostly failed builds, some segfaults. The door is a semaphore. When closed it means something. When locked it means something worse. When you left for college or work or wherever you fled, the process did not terminate. It just

Ambient noise suppression via pillow-over-head protocol
Custom lighting (one overhead bulb, unscrewed; one lamp from a garage sale, working; one string of lights that creates the illusion of a person with taste)
Dedicated shame cache under the bed, in the drawer, behind the thing behind the drawer

Edge Cases

What happens when a parent turns it into a guest room: the spec does not handle this gracefully. Undefined behavior. Furniture replaced; process still running on bare subfloor. Do not look at the wall where the tape was.

What happens when nothing changes and you visit at 34 and the posters are still up: worse.
