A city that has burned down, been bombed flat, and been priced out, and chose to continue anyway.

How it works

London runs on a loose federation of villages that refuse to acknowledge each other, stitched together by the Tube and a shared tolerance for discomfort. No single authority fully owns it. No single culture defines it. This is a feature, not a bug, though it was never designed.

The core loop:

Person arrives from somewhere else seeking something.
City absorbs them without comment.
They complain about the cost of living for approximately forever.
They never leave.

Features

Weather as personality. The grey is not incidental. It is load-bearing. It creates interiority.
Pub as civic infrastructure. The pub is where grief, celebration, job losses, and first dates are processed without distinction.
Stratified time. Roman walls sit behind Pret A Manger. The city has no single era. It runs multiple centuries concurrently.
Queuing as social contract. Orderly lines maintained under conditions that would dissolve lesser arrangements. See also: patience.
Radical anonymity. Eight million people. Nobody is watching. This is either lonely or liberating depending on your configuration.

Known bugs

Zone 1 to Zone 2 travel costs more than some flights to Europe.
"Sunny day" triggers mass system overload. Parks fail to handle load. Beer gardens unresponsive.
Gentrification loop runs without exit condition. Bermondsey. Peckham. Next: somewhere you cannot yet spell.
Accent parsing unreliable. "Alright?" does not require a response. Responding is fine. Not responding is also fine. Both are fine.
The Circle line is not, and has never been, a circle.
