A legal and social operating system designed to sustain the economic and psychological benefits of slavery after its nominal abolition, by other means.
After Reconstruction was abandoned in 1877, the former Confederate states required a replacement architecture. Jim Crow was the result: a distributed, locally enforced stack of statutes, customs, and violence that partitioned Black Americans into a subordinate runtime with no read/write access to civic life.
The system operated on two layers:
Both layers were necessary. Neither was accidental.

"Separate but equal." An error message with no stack trace and no fix.
Status: LEGACY This system is no longer active in its original compiled form. However, significant portions of its logic persist in downstream dependencies that were never audited or removed. Deprecation of the statute layer did not constitute removal of the damage layer. Do not confuse the two. Many people do.
Imposed without negotiation. Benefits extracted without compensation. No version of this software was ever agreed to by those it ran against.
