The capacity to act in the world on your own behalf. Not the same as freedom, though they are frequently bundled in marketing materials.
Agency is our flagship autonomous-decision runtime, enabling users to initiate, modify, or halt actions within their operational environment. Agency sits at the intersection of desire, executive function, and available infrastructure. It is not a guarantee. It is a feature.
"I thought this came pre-installed." — New user, every generation
Deployment is automatic at birth. Activation is not.
| Tier | Description | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Reactive behavior, basic stimulus-response loops | All users |
| Standard | Deliberate choice, short-term planning, some regret | Most users, most days |
| Pro | Long-horizon goals, identity-coherent action, resistance to social pressure | Requires configuration |
| Enterprise | Collective agency, institutional will, coordinated action at scale | Rare. Usually corrupted within 18 months. |
All tiers subject to environmental throttling. See Known Bugs.
Agency LLC ("the Platform") agrees to provide users with access to autonomous decision-making capabilities on a commercially reasonable basis. Uptime is not guaranteed during: grief, severe economic precarity, authoritarian governance, trauma, or Tuesday afternoons after 3pm.
Target SLA: 72% of waking hours (excluding above exclusions).
Support: Best-effort. The Platform does not offer a refund pathway at this time.
Status: Not deprecated. However.
Several Agency features originally shipped in v1.x (unconditioned will, consequence-free action, the sensation that you invented your own values) have been quietly sunset. Users running legacy assumptions are advised to migrate to v4.x, which acknowledges structural constraints, external dependencies, and the role of power in resource allocation.
Migration is uncomfortable. It is still recommended.
v4.1.2 Minor patch. Improved resilience under late-stage capitalism.
v4.0.0 Major release. Introduced collective action module. Deprecated "lone genius" pattern.
v3.2.0 We apologize for the Enlightenment-era documentation which implied Agency was equally distributed by default. It was not. This was a documentation error with significant downstream consequences. We regret the confusion.
v2.0.0 Added language dependency. Substantially expanded planning horizon. Introduced narrative as primary config file.
v1.0.0 Initial release. No documentation. Shipped to all users anyway.
Q: Do I have it? A: You have some. The amount is load-bearing on conditions outside your control, which is uncomfortable but accurate.
Q: Can I get more? A: Yes. This is not a motivational statement. It is a product note. See Dependencies.
Q: Is it mine? A: Licensed to you. Not owned. The self that exercises it is also under review.
