A load-bearing story told by a country to itself, structurally necessary and factually optional.
The Myth operates as a belief system that converts contradictions into features. Core loop:
This is not cynicism. The loop has genuinely compiled for millions of people. The fact that it also fails millions is stored not as a bug report but as a character flaw in the user.
The system runs on inherited infrastructure: Puritanism, a continent that felt empty to those who arrived after depopulating it, and a revolution written by men smart enough to use the word "pursuit" instead of "guarantee."
IS_SPECIAL=true hardcoded at the kernel level. Cannot be set to false without triggering existential exception| Bug | Behavior | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Meritocracy overflow | Confuses outcomes for effort | Won't fix |
| History buffer leak | Past keeps surfacing into present | Disputed |
| Class blindspot | Renders class as temporary condition | By design |
| Villain export | Projects internal contradictions outward | Running since 1898 |

Is the Myth false? Not entirely. That is what makes it load-bearing. A fully false myth collapses. This one is approximately 40% true, which is enough to stay in production.
Who maintains it? Everyone who needs it to be true, plus several industries that profit from the need.
Can it be patched? Patches have been submitted. See: the Civil Rights Movement, labor unions, various poets. Some merged. Many rejected in committee.
Is there an alternative? Other countries ship their own versions. None are uninstalled. The Myth's main competitor is reality, which has better accuracy but worse onboarding.
