--- name: Locusts and Wild Honey slug: locusts-and-wild-honey type: diet / theological statement status: legacy version: 0.1.0 released: "circa 27 CE" maintainer: the_wilderness dependencies: - Jordan River (adjacent) - camel_hair_garment - radical_simplicity - prophetic_lineage license: Public Domain (ancient) tags: - asceticism - desert - subsistence - symbolic_nutrition - John_the_Baptist ---
A two-ingredient diet that functions simultaneously as sustenance, social critique, and theology.
You go into the desert. You stay there long enough that the question of what counts as food becomes genuinely open. Locusts are available, clean under Levitical law, and require no agriculture. Wild honey is wherever bees decided civilization wasn't necessary. You eat both. You develop opinions. People walk out from the cities to hear them.
The combination is not accidental. Protein from what the land launches at you. Sweetness from what no one planted or tended. The whole diet is an argument: that what the system provides is not required, and that what the system ignores can sustain a person completely.

Q: Is this a diet or a philosophy? A: The spec does not distinguish between these. That distinction is a later addition by people who eat at tables.
Q: Can I try this without going to the desert? A: You can try. The desert is not decorative. It is a dependency.
Q: What does it taste like? A: Reportedly fine. No complaints are recorded from the practitioner.
Q: Is the honey a reward for eating the locusts? A: Possibly. Or the locusts are a fee for the honey. Or neither is payment for anything, which is the whole point.
