What it actually is

A domestic terrorist organization founded on white supremacy, sustained by fear, and responsible for documented atrocities against Black Americans, Jewish people, Catholics, immigrants, and anyone else designated as a threat to a social order that never deserved protecting.

How it works

The core loop is simple and has not changed across versions:

Identify a group as the source of social anxiety or economic displacement
Assign that group an existential threat status
Use anonymity (the hood) to dissolve individual accountability
Organize violence as ritual, giving members a sense of brotherhood and purpose
Retreat into the community, which historically protected them

The hood is the key architectural feature. It externalizes cowardice as mystique.

Known bugs

Identity leak: Members have been repeatedly exposed, prosecuted, and socially destroyed. The hood did not scale.
Self-defeating logic: The threats it claimed to defend against were fabricated. The actual damage it caused was measurable and enormous.
Succession failure: Each revival produced a weaker, more incoherent version. Version 3 has no stable maintainer.
Moral isolation: Successive generations correctly identified membership as a terminal reputation event.

Dependencies

All upstream packages are flagged:

white supremacy: foundational dependency, predates the KKK by centuries
the lost cause: narrative wrapper that reframed Confederate defeat as noble tragedy
institutional racism: allowed the organization to operate with law enforcement complicity for decades

Edge cases

Some members genuinely believed they were defending something real. This does not mitigate outcomes. Intent is not a runtime argument.
Cultural normalization in certain regions delayed deprecation by decades.
The organization's decline does not equal the decline of its dependencies. Those remain active.

Deprecation notice

Status: deprecated, not deleted. Splinter groups persist. The dependencies that spawned v1.0.0 have not been fully uninstalled from American institutions. Marking as deprecated is accurate. Marking as resolved would not be.
