Ice Cream

What it actually is

Frozen emulsified fat and sugar, suspended in nostalgia, served in a cone or cup depending on how much you trust yourself.

How it works

Fat globules from cream are destabilized by churning while held at freezing temperatures. Air is incorporated (overrun, technically) to prevent the result from being a brick. Sugar lowers the freezing point, keeping the texture scoopable. Flavor compounds are added. The whole assembly is served to a human who will eat it too fast and feel a brief, clean happiness followed by nothing in particular.

The mechanism relies less on chemistry than it does on anticipation. The gap between wanting ice cream and having it is, per user reports, often better than the ice cream itself.

Flavor paralysis: 31 options causes decision latency. Users often default to vanilla and feel mild shame about it.
Lactose incompatibility: roughly 65% of the global population has reduced lactase persistence. Ice cream runs anyway. Users manage the consequences.
