Confusion

What it actually is

A temporary desync between reality and the internal model the user has been confidently running.

How it works

A signal arrives from the environment.
The brain attempts to match it against existing patterns.
Match fails. The system does not crash. Instead it enters a holding loop, requesting more data while presenting a blank or furrowed interface to observers.
The loop resolves via one of three exits: new information, exhaustion, or the user pretends they understood and moves on.

Step 4, option 3, is by far the most common.

Occasionally misidentified as stupidity by external observers, which is a separate and distinct module
Resolves too quickly when presented with a confident wrong answer, leading to false clarity
May persist even after the correct explanation is given, especially past 3 PM

Does confusion mean something is wrong? Not necessarily. It often means something true and unexpected just arrived.

Can it be prevented? Not without also preventing surprise, growth, and other people.
